Project Overview & Objectives

Positive Design was engaged to bring Gucci Beauty’s conceptual vision to life at the Lotte Duty Free Downtown in Sydney—a space that demanded more than function; it required finesse, storytelling, and brand integrity.

At the heart of this project was a clear objective: to translate Gucci’s prestige and aesthetic into a captivating retail experience that would stand out in a bustling travel hub. The space had to do more than showcase products—it needed to invite discovery, encourage dwell time, and reflect the elegance that defines Gucci’s global reputation.

Gucci’s brand guidelines played a central role in shaping our approach. Every material, color palette, and architectural detail was carefully chosen to embody the house’s luxurious yet contemporary identity. We worked meticulously to strike the right balance between immersive brand storytelling and practical retail requirements, creating an environment that resonates with the modern traveler while staying unmistakably Gucci.

Scope of Work & Collaboration

Positive Design was appointed as the turnkey partner for this project, entrusted to manage every aspect from planning to execution. Our comprehensive scope of work included:

  • Translating Gucci’s creative concept into precise technical drawings

  • Aligning designs with local retailer and regulatory requirements

  • Managing end-to-end project coordination and timelines

  • Consulting on compliance, material suitability, and construction methodology

  • Overseeing all on-site deployment, fit-out, and final detailing

Throughout the project, our team worked closely with an international network of collaborators. This included Gucci’s Global Fashion Brand House, the local Lotte Duty Free team, regulatory authorities, and supply partners across the region. By maintaining open communication and a proactive management style, we ensured that every stakeholder was aligned at each stage—from design intent to final execution.

Navigating Challenges with Precision

This project came with a unique set of complexities, from strict regulatory frameworks to tight turnaround times, and we approached each with a solutions-first mindset.

Our team implemented structured workflows to ensure timely approvals and compliance at every level. Cross-border coordination was streamlined through dedicated communication channels, ensuring clarity across time zones. With our meticulous quality control process and well-scheduled production pipeline, we met the compressed timeline without compromise—delivering a high-end finish that exceeded expectations.

These challenges ultimately strengthened our expertise in agile project delivery, collaborative execution, and deepened our understanding of the demands of global luxury retail.
